Letter: Look in the mirror

If residents are upset that the next Governor of the Commonwealth is being investigated for selling immigration visas to Chinese investors and blowing millions of taxpayer funds on a car making venture that’s all but finished, they should look in the mirror.

In last week’s election, the total number of votes cast for Governor of Virginia was 2,235,284. The total population of Virginia is estimated at 8,185,867. A reliable news source puts the total registered voters in Virginia at roughly 5,200,000. That disparity between eligible voters and total population consists of children and those who haven’t bothered to register. But the shock to me as it should be to all of us is that only 43 percent of those who were eligible, registered, and could have voted, went to the polls; 57 percent stayed home; more than one-half who didn’t participate.
