Editor, Gazette-Journal:

I have read two more letters criticizing the new “Be Here” theme adopted by the board of supervisors in an attempt to increase tourist income to Mathews.

Apparently, the writers are not aware of the purpose of the program or the fact that it is being funded by grant money and not our taxes. Also, the logo includes the nautical flag for M, not an X.

I understand that we, in Mathews, have a tendency to resist any change, but it seems to me that this program will give us an opportunity to bring more money into the county from outside. If we abandon it, maybe we should raise the property tax again, since it appears to be our only source of significant income to the county.
