We are hoping the old saying "that is for the birds" just might be a significant thing for some local property owners. To promote planting and manipulating some small areas of land, let’s enhance the habitat for the Northern Bobwhite Quail.

The State of Virginia has become very concerned over the 80 percent decrease in the quail population since the 1960s. The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries has helped us understand what can be done and in the last few years we have been successful in bringing back quail on local properties.

What about creating habitat areas throughout our community? Think about it. Let us know if this idea/proposal may be of interest to you. We are having quail experts from VDGIF come to talk and walk with anyone interested. We will start with a morning session in the Chesapeake Lounge at Brent & Becky’s Bulbs in Gloucester on Friday, Sept. 7.
