Letter: Lending a helping hand

I would like to thank Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue for their selfless giving of time and knowledge to our family. It was about 11:30 at night when we were traveling on Route 198. We arrived at the scene of an accident involving a fatality. We were only a few cars back from the scene. We stopped and then experienced mechanical difficulty.

Being a large RV, we were in the way of their investigation. The state police and firefighters were very patient with us. They were attending to the scene and conducting their investigation as best they could, given our location.

There was a bystander who volunteered to take us in his personal vehicle to get fuel. When that was unsuccessful in getting us going, the volunteers then jumped in lending their help and expertise. They were a wonderful group of men. They were friendly, polite but most of all instrumental in getting us going again. These men gave of themselves without reservation; most had to get up ear...
