Letter: Ledbetter to increase visibility of sheriff’s office

My family has lived in Gloucester for over five generations. Over the years, a lot of changes have come along. There is a preliminary election of Gloucester County Sheriff on June 12. We, as citizens, need to take a hard look and consider real carefully whom we are going to support.

Gloucester needs a sheriff that cares about the entire county, not just the most populated areas. I have lived at the northern end of the county all my life. It is more rural here than it is below Woods Cross Roads. People at this end of the county feel the need to see more police presence than we have in the past.

Jim Ledbetter wants the police presence to be more community oriented and more visible. This means having the officers go by the homes in the area that they patrol and meet the people. They will introduce themselves to the families in their area so they will know them by name and give out cards. These cards will have phone numbers to call if needed for any reason,...
