Letter: Learning about solar

Editor, Gazette-Journal:
I’ve been puzzled to see “No Solar Farm” signs popping up all over Mathews. So I started asking questions: Why? Why not? I was told the benefits only go to the big companies behind them. I set about talking to people and reading about solar. I talked to several people who explained to me their savings, and how they have benefited with their stories, “Yes, I’m saving money, but mostly my concern is climate change.” The question I didn’t ask was the cost associated with the savings. One person said to me, “It’s not all about savings. My concern is about climate change and if we don’t start now, what will happen to our young families?”
I’m also told that in the long run there is benefit to the overall community, so with limited knowledge and info I’m asking the Gazette-Journal to do a follow-up story about the solar farm in Gloucester and the benefits to the local areas. I hope to learn more over time. Maybe solar will find its place in our lives and our community...
