Letter: Keep Main Street going by spending local

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

I hope everyone had a wonderful time on Main Street during the Gloucester Daffodil Festival. It was a great weekend! I just opened a business there myself and can tell you that Main Street is suffering. Sure, there’s a lot of traffic, but the businesses are struggling.

If you want to keep this wonderful area alive, you have to spend your money there and not the mall and other Newport News businesses—they have a lot of people to keep their economy going. When the businesses close, we all lose. Despite much advertising and passing out flyers, we had a total of 25 people come in between March 1 and April 8. So unless something happens soon, we will close.

So far, we have made a total of $45 for April. Our employees work on commission, so subtract half from the $45. We want to be a place where people can come and relax and get great service. Please help.
