I wanted to take this opportunity to thank the Mathews Maritime Foundation for sponsoring the kayak and conservation camp. It is such a wonderful program for our youngsters. The Chesapeake Bay has been important to my family for many years, beginning with my grandfather being a steamboat captain, to my brother being a Maryland Chesapeake Bay Pilot. I grew up loving the waters of the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland and try very hard to instill the beauty and wonders of the Bay to them.
The program covers every aspect, from soil and water conservation, importance of recycling to archeology and the creatures that live beneath.
My grandchildren have returned home every day with great enthusiasm for what they have learned in the classroom programs as well as mastering the skill of kayaking.
Many thanks again for all who contribute to this wonderful program, through grants, volunteering and skilled speakers.
