Letter: Just suppose …suggested path for the Callis House

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

Just suppose … The citizens of Mathews said, “We are tired of losing our older homes to ‘progress.’ It’s more costly to save an older home, yet we want to promote our heritage. We want an Historic District. They could be synonymous.”

Just suppose … The Bay School said, “We’ll sell you—the Committee to Save the L.M. Callis House—the Callis House for a dollar, because we just can’t make it work for our goals. Not worth the trouble to us—Just get it off our property.”

Just suppose … There was a wonderful church whose history and historic building was part of our community. And, just suppose, this hallmark of our community said to the L.M. Callis Committee, “Yes, you can move the house across our rear property if you will restore the land back to its former state.”
