Letter: It’s really for working people? Really?

One thing you have to admit, the right wing spin machine is ever vigilant. The idea that the recent tax cut was not primarily for the benefit of middle-class must be resisted at all costs.

I am confident the $20 million the Koch brothers spent to help pass the bill was due to their deep love for working Americans. It couldn’t have been the $1 billion to $1.4 billion in tax savings they will receive. Indeed, the importance of hegemony, where the reality we experience is constantly rewritten, interpreted, and sold to us, is a critical ingredient to insuring that many of us will think and act in ways that are contrary to our interests and the greater good.

In accomplishing their efforts to remake reality in a way that benefits them, those at the top of the economic distribution have allocated significant resources to develop movements (e.g., the Tea Party) replete with talking points to buttress their arguments.
