Letter: It will change the complexion of the county

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

It was with the greatest of concern that I received notice of the rezoning effort underway by J&W Seafood, Kevin Wade. It is my understanding that Mr. Wade proposes to the Mathews County Zoning Board and the Board of Supervisors to rezone one acre of land adjacent to his existing business, Island Seafood, Gwynn’s Island. This acre is also surrounded by residential real estate. I believe that if this proposal passes it will change the complexion of the county forever.

This change, adjacent to wetlands, will provide the seafood business with a location to build storage facilities to house commercial equipment and machinery. The zoning request, a change to B1, will permit ANY business use in the future. This change will occur within seconds walk from private homes. This will forever change the business from a small facility, operating a retail store seasonally only several days a week to an industrial complex.
