Letter: It is We the People

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

It is “We the People,” not “We the White People.” We own our history—the good, the bad and the ugly. We must teach the truth, not some sugar-coated, glossed-over version of it. Our children deserve no less.

Teach them about Jan. 6, when over 100 police were injured in a violent insurrection in a desperate attempt to stop the counting of electoral votes and overturn the results of a fair election. So much for “Backing the Blue.”

America can never reach its true potential until everyone is treated equally. Hate, fear and division is not a winning strategy. Voter suppression and gerrymandering is pathetic.

My grandfather was a Merchant Marine. He taught me when I was young about our war effort during WWII when German U-boats were sitting off our coast, sinking our ships at night.
