Editor, Gazette-Journal:
As soon as Congressman Wittman and the House of Representatives passed the American Health Care Act (AHCA), the Democrats chanted “Hey Hey Nah Nah Goodbye” on the House floor.
The chant was ridiculous and insulting to the American people and does nothing to elevate public discourse. They assume Republicans will lose seats in Congress for trying to fix our health care system. Displaying further immaturity and distain for the American public, the Democrats set out to demagogue the AHCA by claiming people with pre-existing conditions will be denied coverage.
Under the AHCA, insurance companies cannot deny you coverage based on pre-existing conditions and your health status cannot affect your premiums. They obviously did not read the bill! The Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) is failing and needs to be reformed. The AHCA is the first step in the process to fix the U.S. health care system. Americans are looking for mature, responsible leadership. Chanting on the House floor and using demagogy illustrates that the Democrats are not yet ready for prime time. Thank you, Rob Wittman, for being the adult in the room and having the fortitude to start this debate.
