I am writing in response to the Mathews County School Board and Mathews County Board of Supervisors’ meetings held on Jan. 29.
I think it is important for all of us to realize that if our children get a good education, they prosper. Prosperous children become prosperous adults and, if prosperous adults reside in Mathews County, Mathews County becomes prosperous.
Therefore, the key component is a good education. In order for us to insure our children get a good education, we need to insure that we hire and, more importantly, retain qualified school faculty.
Secondly, those of us at retirement age must always remember—there were retirees paying taxes and supporting our schools when our children were being educated.
