Letter: Hunters, vote early

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

I’m writing this for the guys that wait all year long for deer season, especially the first week of November, when big bucks let testosterone get the best of them and make the mistake of being seen during legal shooting hours. You know who you are and I’m right there with you. I understand exactly how you feel, and that’s why I want to remind you that Election Day is November 8, when the rut is usually at the peak in this area.

Please don’t let your vote go uncounted. The traditional values held by most hunters are underrepresented because we’re in our stands or chasing dogs, instead of at the ballot box on Election Day. Today’s elections are being decided by razor-thin margins, even in Mathews County. Too many of them result in deterioration of our values, including in our schools. If you’re concerned what your kids are being taught, this year’s election is especially critical since Mathews County has a school board seat on the ballot.
