Letter: How does that ‘defend democracy’?

Editor, Gazette-Journal: Writer David Helms (Readers Write, Feb. 12) invokes a bit of Virginia history in supporting the Democrats’ redistricting power grab. He references a Republican-controlled House and Senate failing to rein in Trump’s excesses. He fails to mention that the same thing happened from the Democrats during Biden’s term. Four years when we did not even know who was really in charge at the White House. Debate the truth in his accusations if you want. They have nothing to do with Virginia Democrats attempting an end-around that should make any decent politician ashamed. He says we must defend democracy. We are a constitutional republic, not a democracy. A democracy, as others have said, is three wolves and one sheep voting on what to have for dinner. In this case, the Democrats are the three wolves.
