Letter: Honoring our nation’s flag

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

As the summer approaches, there will be more opportunities to view our nation’s flag. The red, white and blue. The flag that represents our great nation. It honors those who have paid the ultimate price for the freedoms we enjoy. It stands for the values of our forefathers.

As we watch the flag pass in review, it should be noted that there is a protocol for both military and civilians. When the flag passes in a procession, or when it is hoisted or lowered, all should face the flag and salute.

To salute, all persons come to attention. Those in uniform give the appropriate formal salute. Civilians not in uniform salute by placing their right hand over their heart and men with head cover should remove it and hold it to their left shoulder, hand over heart. Members of organizations in formation salute upon command of the person in charge. Now as the parade progresses down Main Street America, you’ll know what to do.
