Letter: HITW being raked over the coals

My husband and I fell in love with Mathews years ago. One reason was the variety of great restaurants, including Southwind and The White Dog. We were thrilled when Dean and Mac opened Hole in the Wall. HITW is clearly a destination, bringing money into Mathews and providing jobs for residents.

It’s disappointing to see how the Hole in the Wall is being raked over the coals again and again. This latest news (of a $300,000+ renovations requirement and potential closing) is the fourth time the county board of supervisors has accused HITW of wrongdoing. It just doesn’t make sense that new issues keep coming to light over and over. Certainly there are higher priorities where the board’s time and the county’s tax dollars could be spent.

Let’s say the owners of Hole in the Wall agree to renovations to satisfy this latest attack from the board. What will the board come up with next? At what point will Mac and Dean be forced to close the restaurant, put people...
