Letter: Hail to the Polecats?

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

The Washington Commanders are not very good. They need a new coach, some new players and, most of all, they need a new name. The “Commanders” neither inspires confidence in the players nor fear in their opponents. The really good ones are taken. The Lions, Jaguars, Panthers, Bears and Falcons cannot be used so we can forget those.

I propose that the new name of the Washington football should be “The Polecats.”

Not only do polecats instill fear in other animals, it would replicate the stench that seems to emanate from Washington every year. A perfect match! This new name would fit perfectly in the new fight song, “Hail to the Polecats.” The mascot could be “Pepe Le Pew” and the cheerleaders dressed in black and white with cute little tails! And they would win!

But most of all, it would be fun.
