Letter: Group effort brought statue to Mathews

On behalf of Captain Sally Tompkins, I’d like to extend gratitude to those who made her arrival back home a wonderful success. Many Mathews citizens spent long years wondering if we would ever see Sally’s bronze status release from her crate at the Library of Virginia storage facility. Thanks for your patience and faith as we worked for five years through several locations, none viable.
Delegate Keith Hodges and Senate Clerk Susan Schaar were instrumental in requesting Senate approval for locations and funding for the physical move. Tracy Molnar and John Metz were contacts at the Library of Virginia.
Special thanks to Tom Robinson, director of the Mathews Museum, who offered the museum as a final destination. It was a perfect fit and the plan was quickly approved in Richmond.
