Editor, Gazette-Journal:

The Mathews School Board showed great moral leadership this past week in voting to change the name of Lee-Jackson School. I speak for so many of us in Mathews and say “Thank you” to these brave men and women who have cleared the way for children to feel free.

This past week has been stressful and hard for the school board and they are to be commended for their decision. Ella Baker once said, “Give people light and they will find a way.” Thank you to the four conscientious members for giving us a way forward into the light. We are a better county because of them.
