After reading the recent forum comments of the candidates for supervisor, I noticed there were complaints from a few candidates about paying taxes and the need to rein in spending on all levels of our county government. There is a need to review the basic cost to our county citizens of residing in Gloucester.

The chart below compares the basic taxes of the Gloucester homeowner to those of homeowners in neighboring counties. The following information comes from the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce 2013 Guide for our region.

None of us wants our taxes to be raised. However, we should not be fooled into thinking our county is living beyond its means or resources.

The table printed below shows the citizens of "The Land Worth Living" are getting great services for a cost that is equal or lower to that of the citizens residing in neighboring counties.
