The closing of T.C. Walker Elementary School by the Gloucester School Board is an issue that has generated a mountain of questions and questionable actions by the board and Superintendent Kiser. How does the board or Superintendent Kiser actually know that T.C. Walker should be closed? Where are the alternative or contingent budgets that provide that data? Did budget development begin with including (the positive) or excluding (the negative) T.C. Walker? There seems to be an attitude of "Let’s close T.C. Walker so we can move on."
However, the question-and-answer period at the February board meeting gave hopeful signs that T.C. Walker would not be closed. A question was pointedly asked by a citizen sitting across from me if T.C. Walker was going to be closed, and there was almost a concert response of "no" from board members. The citizen was quite satisfied with that response and did not continue with further questions.
