Editor, Gazette-Journal:

This is an open letter to our Mathews County Board of Supervisors. As a low-volume discussion took place yesterday, mostly among themselves looking at each other, I think I heard discussion about why the people coming forward with interest to take Pepper Love’s place should be listened to. I also think I heard one member say, “They didn’t have an interest in running before.”

Well, we thought we had lots of good candidates running and certainly didn’t know our board would become so dysfunctional. That’s what has prompted at least two or three well-educated and thoughtful people to be interested and come forward.

They should be heard by all of us with an open hearing before a decision is made.

Lastly, we need to thank Pepper Love for his efforts. I know his decision must have been hard, and maybe necessary, to make us all take notice. I also want to thank our current board and Mindy Conner and other leaders for doing a some...
