Editor, Gazette-Journal:
Like many communities, the November local elections are quickly approaching in Mathews County. Signs for our school board elections are sprouting everywhere. I applaud those who are choosing to run, and know the voters will look at each candidate closely as they judge each candidate on the many issues and NOT their political party affiliation.
With that said, I can’t help but noticing how politicized the Mathews County School Board election has become as one candidate’s signs, Mari Gibbs, literally attached with Rep. Rob Wittman’s large, banner signs. In addition, a Mari Gibbs sign is planted with the largest flag in Mathews County, the flag located on Route 14. Yes, I have seen Lorraine Forrest signs near Col. Herb Jones’ signs. However, they are not joined together but rather appear to be sharing the space of like-minded voters.
Please vote and please vote for the candidate you know, respect, and hope to fill this important seat. I already voted for Lorraine ...
