Editor, Gazette-Journal:
I’m writing this in my support for Kevin Smith for the at-large seat for Gloucester County Board of Supervisors.
Kevin Smith is a good man and goes out of his way to listen to the citizens of Gloucester. Kevin conducts himself with decorum and has strong morals. His stances on the second amendment (he is pro-gun rights) and critical race theory in our education (which he is against) are extremely important to me. I appreciate his middle of the road approach to his role on the board. I feel it is vital that we have a well-balanced board and points of view.
Kevin was only one of two board members who voted to use the new sales tax increase the way it was intended to be used and the way we who voted expected the funds to be used. He stood his ground and stood by the overwhelming 60 plus percent of voters who were with the understanding that the new sales tax would be used for new construction and renovations. Not old debt that had already been budgeted for by the board. He stands by us and I stand by him.
I first voted in 1996. It was the general election. I voted for the Dole/Kemp campaign. Ever since then, I’ve voted Republican. I’m very proud of my belief system. Although my views are more on the conservative side, I vote for the person, not the party. I’m extremely ashamed and embarrassed that Mrs. Altemus is campaigning as a Republican, let alone running. Does she think we forgot what she did last time she was in office? I encourage the voters to watch the YouTube video titled: “Gloucester Virginia Board of Supervisors Meeting Jan. 2/3, 2008 Last 30 minutes.” If this doesn’t show Mrs. Altemus’s true colors, nothing will.
Her local political experience has been nothing more than an unmitigated disaster. There has been plenty said on this, so I will not rehash it. What will change if she gets voted in? The elitism rears its ugly head again. Remember the “Gloucester Mafia”? The very select few who put themselves above everyone else. Mrs. Altemus claims to be “for the people.” I find this humorous, because her behavior suggests otherwise.
Kevin Smith gets my vote on Nov. 2, and I hope yours too.
