Letter: For Crowley

Sheila Crowley is running for the 98th District as our voice for “the common good.” What does this mean? Perhaps the most succinct online definition (Britannica.com) is “that which benefits society as a whole, in contrast to the private good of individuals and sections of society.” Quality education, a clean environment, access to health care, prosperity and livable incomes come to mind as items benefiting all members of society. 

So which candidate is likely to deliver? Follow the money (at vpap.org): Over 99 percent of Keith Hodges’ campaign contributions for 2016-2017 came from Political Action Committees (PACs). Health care PACs contributed 41 percent, followed by alcohol and tobacco interests (16 percent) and real estate groups (11 percent). Other contributors included energy, natural resources, law, manufacturing and financial services. Virtually no money originates within the 98th District.
