Editor, Gazette-Journal: I support the proposed 1 percent local sales tax in Mathews County because I believe investing in our schools is an investment in our children and the future of our community. Our students and staff deserve safe, updated facilities that support learning and provide an environment in which everyone has the opportunity to succeed. Having worked as both a teacher and an administrator in multiple Region 3 schools, I have seen firsthand the importance of a positive school environment and the impact it has on students and staff. One of the biggest reasons teachers like myself continue to come back to Mathews County is the incredible students we have the privilege of teaching.
