Letter: Food Lion gives back to community

We at Salem United Methodist Church of Mathews want to thank and recognize Food Lion for their compassion and generosity here in our Mathews community. 

Their “Food Lion Feeds” program, led at the corporate level by Angela Wheeler, recently gave us a $500 gift card for us to use in our Snack Pack Ministry. Our ministry, which is led by several of our United Methodist Women’s Circles, buys, gathers, collects and packages handy and nutritious snacks that are distributed to the schools in Mathews for those children who are unlikely to have enough food over their weekends.

The keys to the success of our Snack Pack Ministry are the Mathews school teachers! They know each and every child’s needs and act accordingly. This all happens through direct communication of all involved and without government red tape or control of any kind.
