Letter: Flag issue has reached ‘witch hunt’ status

With the recent tragedy in Charleston, S.C., the Confederate battle flag (and all things Confederate) have come under renewed scrutiny. This scrutiny has been witnessed in the United States before. Flags have been removed and entities undergo name changes from time to time. However, the controversy has reached “witch hunt” status in the wake of this recent tragedy. 

The Confederate battle flag has been removed from retailers, such as Walmart and Amazon. The mayor in Memphis has called for General Forrest’s body to be dug up. The Governor of Virginia is in the process of removing the Confederate flag from the Sons of Confederate Veteran license plate. These are just a few things that have occurred since Gov. Nikki Haley called for the Confederate battle flag to be removed from South Carolina state grounds.
