Letter: Feeding body and soul

To strengthen our annual giving campaign and ensure that our Y is open to all, regardless of financial ability, the Y held a boxed lunch fundraiser last week, "Lunch with a Purpose." It was a resounding success!

First and foremost, thank you to Nelda Gibbs and her "team" for a delicious lunch. As soon as the volunteers told people it was Nelda’s chicken salad and broccoli salad—SOLD—proof-positive that the first step to a great fundraiser is to have a great product to sell. Thanks also to the many dedicated volunteers who sold, assembled and delivered lunches.

Not only do you have to have a great product for a successful fundraiser, you have to have volunteers who believe in the driving force—the mission, or purpose. Finally, thanks to everyone who bought a boxed lunch—individuals and local businesses alike. Your generosity demonstrates your commitment to helping those who aren’t looking for a hand out but a hand up.
