Letter: Fearmongering

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

Gosh, the Letters to the Editor are full of fearmongering, misinformation and sheer panic on part of a select few. Here are some facts that might put these fears in perspective.

1.) Cutting federal employees’ jobs. The Clinton administration reduced the federal workforce by 377,000 as part of the “Reinventing Government” initiative. Under the Biden administration, millions of Americans lost employment to illegals and the military and others lost their jobs because they didn’t take the vaccine. What about the Keystone pipeline workers who were let go during Biden administration?

2.) Trump firing most of the U.S. Attorneys. Bush, Reagan, Clinton and Obama all fired most of the U.S. attorneys upon entering office. Why should this be any different?

3.) Trump pardoning of 1,500 Jan 6ers. Most of them served 3-4 years so it is not like they are getting off with no sentence. I’m sure those that assaulted police officers in Minnesota during the summer riots of 2020 didn’t get that. Besides, I think it is obvious the Capitol was not properly secure that day and would have never happened had it been properly secure. Should those that thought they were innocently going into the Capitol when a police officer directed them in, even received a sentence? Compare that to Biden pardoning 8,000 criminals before leaving office.

4.) Fear of Elon and his team getting access to your personal information to audit our government agencies. They cry that they weren’t elected or vetted by Congress or the FBI. Your doctor’s office, your employer, your tax accountant, your bank’s employees and many others all have access to the same information. Were any of them elected or vetted by Congress or the FBI? These actions are aimed at cutting waste which we all should want no matter which party you belong to.
