Letter: Everyone in Gloucester needs to make a buck!

As you know, Gloucester is primarily a bedroom community where people live here and work somewhere else. Gloucester’s economy is based on tourism and history and the second home industry. Gloucester has three main “tourism” entry points: 1) from the south on 17 that is zoned business and for some folks, forever ruined; 2) from the north on 17 that’s not so bad even though it goes past a dump (that can’t be seen) and 3) From the east along Route 3/14 from Mathews. This is a beautiful entryway past historic homes and rural farms and farmland.

Strata Solar is proposing an “industrial solar power plant on 200 acres of pristine rural farmland” along Route 14 and with very little protective buffering to hide the power plant and its 6 foot tall prison-style fencing topped with barbed wire. Approval of this industrial/business in a rural area—should open this sector of Gloucester so that everyone can make some money!
