Letter: Energy company goes the extra mile

Phillips Energy is a model business on historic Route 17. Phillips Energy can best be characterized as a responsible citizen who not only serves its customers with courtesy and efficiency, but sets an example for not only adhering to the letter of the law, but the spirit of defining Gloucester as a caring community that is indeed proud of the characterization of "The Land of the Life Worth Living."

The oil business as such involves a lot of heavy trucks and traffic, and what could be very unsightly storage tanks and all the attendant necessities, but yet not very attractive on a major highway.

Phillips has gone the extra mile in not only screening some of these unattractive areas, but also envelops their trucks and cars and other vehicles with a solid painted fence.

They have shown that you can comply with the highway overlay plan by proper and well maintained landscape, and most importantly a very generous de-acceleration lane for these oil...
