Letter: Empty Bowls fills food pantry

Hands Across Mathews would like to thank the Bay School Community Arts Center for organizing the second annual Empty Bowls Program in Mathews County. The many hours that the Bay School staff and its volunteers dedicated to this program resulted in a wonderful event at the center on Sunday, Dec. 6.

The handmade pottery bowls, the outstanding soups and the variety of breads and cookies brought together a wide cross section of the Mathews community.

Gary Edmondson, a local artist, donated a still life painting for a raffle, which added some excitement to the noon-time event and contributed to the $2,900 that was raised. The result was a fantastic gift from the whole community to Hands Across Mathews and our food distribution program.

Thanks again to everyone who made bowls, soups, bread and cookies and those who set up, served and cleaned up. But, most of all, thanks to everyone who purchased a bowl and enjoyed the wonderful food. We are making a difference in...
