Letter: Easter Vigil, 1992

Our evening vigil saw the sun descend,

And tapered candles helped us find the way.

We walked in silence lest the voice offend

Or steal the quiet reverence from the day.

From darkness into darkness we processed,

’Til candles filled the holy space with light.

We watched the sacred fire and water blessed,

While incense spread its fragrance on the night.

The silence ended as a single voice

Began to chant our Easter hymn of praise,

Joining angelic choirs to rejoice,

Calling our hearts to hope throughout our days.

Then lights were raised and bells began to ring

In celebration of our risen King.
