Letter: Easement would devalue property value

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

Some of you may be familiar with the lawsuit filed by a local nonprofit organization for a prescriptive easement through a Main Street property owned by a local church and controlled by a small business, through a long-term lease arrangement. A prescriptive easement is basically seizing property possession/control under squatter’s rights without affecting ownership. We the People see this as unconstitutional immoral legalized stealing. If the easement is granted by the court, it will devalue the church’s property significantly and will prevent current and future owners from using or developing it.

It appears the reason the nonprofit is seeking the easement is to gain permanent access to the traffic signal located at the intersection of Main Street and Route 14.
