Editor, Gazette-Journal: The word “urgency” alerts me no less than a fire alarm. Douglas Cohn and Eleanor Clift’s “A time for urgency” (Washington Merry-Go-Round column, June 8 Gazette-Journal) urgently requires them to stop distorting events. Senator McCarthy declared that George C. Marshall was not loyal to the nation. Cohn and Clift mimic McCarthy when writing that President Trump might have colluded with the Russians. Merry-go-rounds can cause dizziness and it’s apparent in their collusion hints. A pending NATO fracture? It’s already a chasm, less the nice flag. After France withdrew from the military portion of NATO, it never completely returned. France did not rejoin the NATO nuclear planning group. Greece had “problems” with Turkey’s entry into Cyprus. Attacks against NATO members Montenegro and Lithuania triggering Article 5? Anticipate another “third partition of Poland.” The 1795 partition disestablished ...
