I attended the Mathews County School Board and Board of Supervisors joint budget work session on Feb. 7.
I hoped to learn more about the budget process and specific categories in the draft budget. That did not happen. During the 2½-hour meeting, very little time was spent on the budget. Most of the discussion focused on a proposal for a preschool program and nonbudget concerns.
I was disappointed that the two boards could not respectfully collaborate and discuss school budget categories in the 10-page budget draft. Little progress was made in working toward an acceptable final budget draft.
