Letter: Democracy in action

Editor, Gazette-Journal:
I want to thank the voters of Mathews County for their outstanding performance in last week’s election. Eighty percent of all the registered voters in the County of Mathews turned out to vote last week, and that is a number I hope we continue to reach in future elections. A democracy ceases to be a democracy if citizens stop participating.
We must keep our country and our political process strong by participating in the election process. Thanks to the Mathews County Electoral Board and our registrar for their hard work. Thanks to all of you, and I hope to see the remaining 20 percent at the polls next November. Our state will be voting for a new governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general.
