Letter: Cywinski for Congress

Editor, Gazette-Journal: Someone running for political office said something remarkable at a town hall meeting. Tim Cywinski, a candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in Virginia’s First Congressional District, was asked what issue he would never compromise on. His answer was simple: dignity. He said politicians often talk about the compromises required to pass legislation, and while compromise is sometimes necessary, there is one thing that should never be negotiable. Every person deserves to live with dignity—free from discrimination, fear, exploitation, and from being used as a political prop. When asked what that principle looks like in practice, he gave clear examples. Health care decisions, including those related to pregnancy, should be made between patients and their doctors—not politicians.
