Letter: Cyclists are coming

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

As the director of the Tour de Chesapeake, I would like to take this opportunity to let our community know that on May 17, over 450 cyclists will take to our roads to enjoy the scenic vistas and visit the special places that Mathews has to offer. The cyclists will be traveling to Mobjack, Gwynn’s Island, Redart, Glebe, Bethel Beach, New Point and all points in between.

If you have pets that could be inside or on a leash that day, we would be most appreciative. Many of these folks have been here before and come back because they truly love the area and the people here.

I know the roadways and Court House area will be busy that day, as many other events are happening as well, so I want to thank you all for being so patient and kind to the visitors and all community volunteers this weekend. We have patrol and safety vehicles along all the routes, but if you see someone in need, please help them out just as you would one of your neighbors.

We hope residents of Mathews will join in on the fun at the Party at the Wharf at Williams Wharf on Saturday from 5-9 p.m., which is free and open to the public, thanks to TDC.

The Tour de Chesapeake directly benefits over 40 local civic and non-profit organizations, churches and tourism-related and general businesses in Mathews.

Thank you for your support of Mathews tourism! I hope to make it a smooth weekend for all of us!
