Letter: Creating a ‘State of Fear’ about climate change

Well, it appears that the sky is falling faster than the experts predicted. Reference Dr. Mikulecky’s letter of last Thursday (“Climate scientists were not accurate,” Aug. 14 Readers Write). He claims that our warming climate has accelerated the melting of Arctic permafrost, releasing vast quantities of methane, which, per Dr. Mikulecky, is 20 times more potent than CO2 as a greenhouse gas. The logical conclusion, then, is that global warming is out of our hands (if indeed it ever was in our hands) and that the best we can do now is prepare for it. However, he states, as alarmists always do, that we have to act right away, presumably to stop the warming itself.
