Letter: Creating a culture of caring

The 2015 theme of National Volunteer Week, April 12-18, “Celebrate Service” is so very appropriate in recognizing and appreciating the thousands of volunteers who help in our schools. Every day parents, community members, business people, church & civic group members and teenagers offer their time and talents to our schools. Their selfless efforts help create a culture of caring in our community and inspire each of us through their dedication and commitment. Gloucester County’s Community Education staff would like to celebrate a few of the many, many examples of those performing valued services.

Vivian Eccleston, a Page Middle School student, is already a seasoned volunteer, helping kindergarten kids each week at Botetourt Elementary School and assisting with PTA events when she is able. She is a shining example of young people helping and learning the joy of community service at an early age.
