A love for the truth impels me to respond to Mr. Mereness’s Democratic diatribe (“Whatever happens, Trump and the GOP own it,” July 20 Readers Write).

The lamentable state of our nation is in no small part the responsibility of the Progressive portion of the Democratic Party. Republican campaign headquarters firebombed; violent rioting on Inauguration Day; the attempted murder of the Republican baseball team in Alexandria last month; “#huntrepublicans” the work of a New Jersey Democratic strategist named Devine—all this the Democrats own.

When Mr. Obama was inaugurated, Republicans didn’t riot; they went back and the next time Congress stood for election, they deprived Mr. Obama of the control of Congress. The day President Trump took office, the left rioted. Opposing his immigration policies, one of the first acts of protest was the destruction of a limousine, used by a legal immigrant for his livelihood.
