Editor, Gazette-Journal:
Recently the Gazette-Journal printed an article about the proposed Phase II renovations for Main Street in Mathews. After viewing the proposed project in the online version on the Main Street website, I contacted the zoning director for Mathews County and the landscape architect involved in the project and expressed the following concerns for Phase II:
1. The proposed numerous bump outs between Hyco Corner and the Food Lion will create additional unsafe traffic conditions by adding to the congestion created by the controversial Phase I bump-outs. These bump-outs impede traffic flow and are merely for looks, not traffic improvement.
2. Actual, not virtual software, simulations of vehicular traffic should be done as soon as possible before any additional expenses are incurred. The test vehicles should vary, but should include fire engines and 40-ft. tractor-trailers.
3. Money should be set aside to make corrections to any errors or oversights created by Phase...
