On behalf of the Mathews High School varsity boys’ basketball team, I would like to thank all the businesses, churches and individuals in Mathews who donated money in order for us to charter a Newton’s Bus for our trip to the state tournament in Bristol, Virginia.

Their generosity and the love the community showed our players when we departed was truly touching and deeply appreciated. I also want to thank the high school administration (Dr. Childress and Mr. Foster), the athletic department (Derek Kibler and Lindsey Newell), my assistant coaches (Imazel Blake, Tyrone Jarvis, and Dave Marbane), and all of the players and their parents. Their help, support, and cooperation enabled us be successful despite the adversities and trials a long basketball season threw our way.
