Letter: Clarifying his position

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

I would like to clarify my position on some issues Mr. Petersen brought up in his letter (“Another view of our politics,” July 26 Readers Write).

I realize the Statue of Liberty was given to the United States as a gift from the French people. It had to do with the American Revolution. But I believe it had become a symbol of freedom for millions of immigrants as they came through Ellis Island. I still feel it is viewed that way. Just my opinion.

I realize many people have more talent and treasure than others. My point was, we all deserve the respect and freedoms and the pursuit of happiness in America. Of course, that would all change if one was involved in criminal activity. Then one would forfeit those freedoms. My opinion.

Mr. Petersen believes I was ranting because my side lost. Contrary to what one thinks, I found Hillary Clinton to be a flawed candidate just like I found Donald Trump to be a flawed candidate. Not voting was not an option fo...
