Letter: Chili Cook Off was outstanding event

The Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad Auxiliary and volunteers did an outstanding job of putting the event together which helped to further their mission. The outstanding turnout proves that the people of Mathews County are truly committed to helping the MVRS.

As a first-time participant of this year’s Cook Off, I would like to thank the community for their generosity and support. The Mathews Post 83 American Legion entry won first place Judges Choice and later first place People’s Choice. 

I applaud the seven organizations and the many volunteers that participated in the competition.

A big thanks to our Legion team for selling the most tickets; for slicing, dicing, joking, laughing and putting up with me while preparing two great chilies totaling 19-20 gallons.
