Letter: Can we respectfully agree to disagree?

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

In September, CircleUp (a Middle Peninsula Democrat, Trump “resistance” group) offered an invite “A Call for Civil Discourse” to the general public to attend its next meeting for the purpose of “listening” to each other’s political points of view. I am assuming this outreach for civility is genuine. In a time of chaos, it is a noble gesture. Hillary Clinton said civility is not possible unless the Democrats win.

“Come let us reason together” (Isaiah 1:18) is a call by this Jewish prophet to the people of Judah and Jerusalem during a similar time of utter chaos and crisis. The distinction between then and now was that the people knew the established difference between right and wrong, good and evil. God established Truth. They were making a choice to abandon their heritage and faith. Reasoning was possible because there was a standard, a law.
